Trademark Paving was part of the team with Fulton Hogan that delivered this Riccarton Road upgrade, which was completed in May 2020, well ahead of the original December deadline.
The project was to upgrade all subsurface services, replace and widen the road, and upgrade the footpaths and street furniture making this stretch of road more accessible and pedestrian-friendly.
Beginning in early September 2019, the Trademark teams carried out work from kerb to boundary, which required a wide range of skills, resources, plant, and equipment. While we excavated and prepped the footpaths for new paving, we concurrently formed and poured concrete nibs, cut-downs, and foundations for street furniture. In and around the paving, other members of our team were working hard to install all the new seating, garden edges, bollards, cycle stands, and rubbish bins.
- The segmental paving we installed was from Firth – it consisted of Honed Warm Earth Piazzas, and Bush Hammered and Honed Warm Earth Setts running along the shopfronts as a make-up strip.
- The cobbled intersections used the traditional Firth Holland in the Warm Earth colour.
As expected, one of the greatest challenges on a project like this is maintaining access to the stakeholders that line either side of the street – this was definitely the case on Riccarton Road with the project running the length of Westfield Mall. However, this was overcome with fantastic communication with the Fulton Hogan team throughout the project, and the flexibility to go above and beyond with the hours we worked to minimise disruption for the businesses involved. There were many days… and nights worked!
